Our Priorities

Environment Activists Protest

Environmental Protection

Stewardship and protection of the earth is our sacred trust. We have a responsibility to leave our children and grandchildren an earth that is safe, livable and healthy for generations to come. We should be able to eat the fish in our waters, and to know the water we drink, the air we breathe, and the foods we eat are safe so that our children will have a healthy future.

Education

We support public schools and believe that education is vitally important to Georgia’s future. It is the government’s responsibility to ensure that every child receives a top quality education which will enable them to lead meaningful lives, no matter their race, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, religion, disability status, language status, immigration or citizenship status, household income or ZIP code. Students should be educated by caring, qualified teachers with the aid of modern technology in a well-maintained school facility. We affirm the urgently important role of educators and believe teachers should be treated with the respect they deserve. Students would receive healthy, nutritious meals (which help stimulate the brain and enhance school performance) offered at a free or reduced price.

Healthcare

Universal access to health care, without discrimination, is a basic human right we all deserve at all stages of our lives. No one should ever have to choose between paying for life’s necessities or lifesaving medical services. Until universal healthcare is a reality we are committed to electing leaders who support lowering drug costs, canceling medical debt wherever possible, and guaranteeing that insurance companies are not exploiting and deceiving people. Since 2010, nine rural hospitals have closed down, making Georgia third in the nation for hospital closures. These closures have devastated communities by leaving residents without emergency services and preventative care. Republicans in our State have consistently shown that providing healthcare to Georgians who need it is not a priority for them. Governor Brian Kemp continues to turn down millions in federal funding that would expand our Medicaid system, so we support people powered leaders who advocate for expanding Medicaid in Georgia.

Homeownership/
Affordability

We believe that society thrives when all people are able to live safely, comfortably and with dignity. Lack of housing affordability is an American issue. We are committed to electing leaders who support policies that will lower housing costs, increase housing accessibility, strengthen fair housing enforcement, and ensure a strong economy empowers all Americans to succeed.

Reproductive Healthcare

The most basic human right is the right to control one’s own body. For women across the country, and here in Georgia, that right is being stripped away. We believe that every Georgian, regardless of their background, should be guaranteed the right to choose if, when, and how they start or grow their family.

Gun Safety

Gun violence is now the number one cause of death of children in Georgia. We support common-sense initiatives proven to reduce gun violence while protecting the rights of responsible Georgia gun owners. These include universal background checks on every purchase and transfer of firearms, awareness programs around safe gun storage especially around children, extreme risk laws to prevent someone in crisis or people with dangerous histories from accessing firearms, and sensible waiting periods on new gun purchases. Job Opportunities & Wages

We support leaders who want to guarantee that all Americans have the opportunity to succeed and that all working families can enjoy economic security. We are committed to doing everything we can to build a full-employment economy, where everyone has a job that pays enough to raise a family and live in dignity with a sense of purpose. By making debt-free college available to all Americans, cracking down on companies that ship profits and jobs overseas, fighting for equal pay and paid leave, and ensuring the wealthiest citizens and largest corporations pay their fair share, Democrats will never stop fighting to build an economy works for all.

Voter Rights

Voting should be accessible, easy, secure and safe for all. Our political process works best when everyone participates, when everyone’s voice can be heard, and when elected officials are powerless to game the system, As such, we support the repeal of SB 202 and giving counties the flexibility to implement measures that reduce long lines and increase voter participation.
